Larry Dean Morris
January 03, 2020
Larry Dean Morris, 70, of West Des Moines entered Heaven's Gates on Friday, January 3, 2020.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, January 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa. Family will greet friends following the service.
Larry was born December 10, 1949 to John and Wanda Morris in Amarillo, Texas. He graduated from Yale University in 1972 and SMU Law School in 1975. Larry married Sara Blong in 1977 in Dallas, Texas. Larry knew Sara was "the one” from their second date, and he cherished her all the days of his life. Together they are blessed with a beautiful family. Larry never met a stranger and everyone was invited to their home for a good meal and hearty conversation. Larry would do the inviting and Sara would do the cooking.
Larry loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ with all his heart, and sought to honor him in all that he did. He lived each day by faith and exhibited a generosity uncommon in this time. He overflowed with joy and his laugh was contagious. Larry never turned down a mission’s opportunity that would further the name of Jesus.
One of Larry’s most coveted roles was the one as “Papa” to his grandchildren. The laughter and joy when Papa came around was electric. He was adored by each of his grandchildren and he worked hard to make each one feel special.
Although he will be greatly missed, we are comforted knowing that he is in the BEST place and we will have the best family reunion in heaven. He never feared death, knowing that he would finally see Jesus face to face. Larry would want there to be no mourning, only Jesus Christ glorified. He would want all who read this to know the Savior whom he is living with now.
He is survived by his wife, Sara; three children, Ryan Morris and wife, Lesley of Aurora, Illinois, Hillary Valor and husband, Marty of Lantana, Texas and Erin Rose and husband, Dustin of Rhome, Texas; two brothers, Brad Morris and wife, Julie of Peachtree City, Georgia and Alan Morris and wife, Jean of Amarillo, Texas; seven grandchildren, Luke, Ian, Maya, Tenley, Teagan, Gage and Cody; and mother-in-law, Sophie Blong.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to the family for distribution to one of Larry’s favorite ministries. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
The final resting place of Larry’s cremated remains will be at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas at a later date.
"If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent." Psalm 91:9-10

Sara and family , we are so sorry to learn of Larry's passing . I found out recently through the SMU Law Alumni newsletter . Larry was a classmate . He and I were among the group who lived in Lawyers Inn our first year of law school . We reconnected at an event in Dallas honoring Windle Turley afew short years ago and Larry was kind enough to share his faith with me . Larry was a kind and gentle soul with a great sense of humor . We lost a son recently , so I can at least have some sense of what the family has been going through . Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you . I am sorry for the " face " on this message but have been unable to delete it . We wanted to get this message to you despite that . We will miss Larry . May God bless you and keep you .

May Jesús presence be the comfort needed as you all in all miss him.
What a blessing to have had him for the years you all have him. Im thankful for the brief moments....I could see Jesus through him.
Nothing can separate us from the Lord comes to my mind... Jesus took the keys of death & no more death , no suffering...

Larry was one of the most ardent seed planters I have ever known. Personally, I will miss our weekly racquetball games. We had switched to Pickleball and split games the day of his fall. Any spiritual issue that came up, Larry was my first call. He would want you to read 90 Minutes in Heaven if you want to know how he's doing now.

To Sara and Family
We are so sad to hear of Larrys passing. We feel so honored to have known him and you, Sara. We would have been at the funeral today, but we are out of the country. There is no doubt that he touched the lives of many, just as he did ours. May God bless you all.

For the Sara and the Morris Family my sincere condolences. Larry and I attended church together as children all the way through high school. He was always a role model for many and a born leader. His smile was infectious and he brought joy and laughter to all. He will be missed.

Sara and family, I will always hold dear the many times we had together, studying the word of God, solitude at Pacem and many fun times of fellowship. Prayer was important to him. Larry was exuberant in his faith and because of that, he encouraged many. I am one. Blessings and sympathies as you look to the One who comforts.

Sara, our deepest condolences to you and family! Larry was a great friend ( and fellow band member) in high school and it was such a pleasure to see him again at the reunion and he immediately asked if I would be attending the reunion church service! He will be greatly missed. Prayers that you may find comfort and strength in your many wonderful memories.

I've known Larry since grade school and through high school. It has always been a joy to see him. We called each other "cuz" and later found out we really are cousins through grandparent's family. Larry was always a fine and gifted person, a joy as a friend, and the world is a better place because Larry was here. He will be missed, but in the words of an old hymn, "I'm on my way to that fair land, where there will be no parting hand, no sad farewells, no teary eyes, where all is love, and the soul never dies. 'Tis a glorious thought to me, in that home beyond the sea, that we'll know each other there, by and by."

Dear Sara and family,
I will greatly miss Larry. He was a kind and generous man who had a heart for the Lord not seen in many others. He was a great co-worker, spiritual mentor and friend in times of need. Just knowing Larry was praying for me and my family was always a great comfort. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts, prayers and condolences to you and your family.

Sara, Our deepest condolences. Larry was the best man I have ever known. We went to Sunday school together from the fourth grade, he sent me Bible verses (several per day) I am eternally grateful for the blessings he made in my life. He always spoke of you as his greatest blessing only second to Christ. His unconditional love for Jesus was beyond reproach. It has been an honor to get to know you and several of the members of your family. I will think of Larry everyday. Carol and I Love You so much.
