Service Details

Bub Taylor, 60, passed away suddenly on December 5, 2019 after a heart attack. Services will be held Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA with visitation one hour prior. Family will greet friends following the service.

Bub was born on March 15, 1959 in Little Rock, AR to Nellie (Brooks) and Wallace Taylor. Wallace worked for Harvestore and the family moved often. Their family eventually settled in Waterloo, IA where Bub graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1977. He then went on to Ellsworth Community College and graduated with a degree in Marketing and Petroleum and was honored with student of the year. This led him to a career in the auto industry working for various companies such as Firestone, Carousel Motors and most recently spent 20 plus years at Honda as a Service Advisor. Bub worked within Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Davenport, and in 2011, transferred to Des Moines. Bub was so dedicated to his profession he could troubleshoot an issue with your vehicle just by the sound it made.

Bub married Cindy Wheeler on May 17, 1980 after connecting the last week prior to college graduation. The two met at a college party and time stood still. They would have celebrated their 40th anniversary next May. Bub was a devoted husband and family man. He championed all things fatherhood related, he was a coach, a cheerleader and above all he stood behind you whether he agreed with you or not.

Bub loved with his whole heart in everything he did. Bub's passions extended to anyone he came into contact with. You wouldn't be able to see him without music playing everywhere he went. He loved martial arts and was a third degree brown belt in My-Ja-Quan. He loved to read, especially Steven King. He loved going to the movies, and above all, a night out spent with friends and family with great food at the table. Bub could walk into a restaurant and tell you what was cooking just by the smell. He was a devoted Iowa Hawkeye fan and you could find Bub at NASCAR and motorcycle races or at least make his family watch them with him on TV.

He loved his wife and children and enjoyed spending time traveling with his loved ones. Bub's first trip outside of the United States was to the Dominican Republic to preemptively celebrate his daughter’s 30th birthday in October 2018. The trip included horseback riding, snorkeling in the ocean, beach side lounging with his family with multiple strawberry daiquiris in hand. Bub's performance at work allotted him a Cruise to Key West and the Bahamas where he got to spend time with his son. He then was able to take a family trip to Branson, Missouri which included taking golf carts through caves, a ferris wheel ride, grilling out, and taking a pontoon boat out on the lake.

He will be greatly missed by his mother, Nellie Taylor; his wife, Cindy Taylor; daughter, Kaitlyn Taylor; and son, Kyle (Ashley Kuehl) Taylor; his siblings, Darrell (Lynn) Taylor, Cheryl and Allen Taylor; and other family members and a host of dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family has designated University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital for memorial contributions, please make checks payable to Cindy Taylor, from there she will make an honorary donation in Bub's name.
