David R. Baker, 75, passed away November 30, 2019 at Unity Point Health Des Moines Methodist.

David was born June 3, 1944 in Des Moines to Clarence and Louella Nadine Baker. He served in the US Army, 5th Battalion, 7th Calvary Division during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and three Purple Hearts. David was a retired concrete contractor. In his younger years, David enjoyed playing slow pitch softball. He was an avid sports fanatic. He loved being outdoors, doing yardwork and backyard barbeques. David also enjoyed putting Christmas lights out every year for his wife Chris.

David is survived by his wife, Chris; daughters, Tori, Lori (Tim) and Leanna (Mike); grandchildren, Heather, James, Brandon, Devin, Jody, Sean, Kayle, David, Lawrence and Michael, Jr.; 25 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brothers, Paul and Don; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Virginia, Kay and Sue; and his brother, Bob.

In keeping with David’s loving and generous spirit, it was his decision to donate his body to Des Moines University. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday, December 15, 2019 at the family home.
