Amy Jo Swackhamer, 44, of Urbandale passed away at Methodist West Hospital in West Des Moines on Saturday, September 7th 2019.

Amy was born March 16th, 1975 in Council Bluffs, to Fred and Betty Sample. She attended Urbandale High School and graduated with the class of 1993. She then went on to have two children, Chase, and Ciera. She was married for 15 years to the father of her two children, Joshua Swackhamer. She later continued her education and received a bachelor’s degree in marketing and communications from The University of Phoenix.

She was an extremely loving mother, sister, daughter, aunt, friend, co-worker, boss, and so much more. Amy cared for everyone she came in contact with. She played so many roles beautifully and loved her family above all. Those who knew her knew she always had a smile on from ear to ear, and her favorite saying was, “Keep smiling, and always kill them with kindness, baby!”

She was preceded in death by her brother Jefferson Vincent, grandparents - Charles and Dorothy Wohlers, Wilma and Jefferson Sample, Vincent Wernimont, and aunt Pammy Sample. She is survived by the father of her children Joshua Swackhamer, her son Chase Richard Swackhamer, 24 of Urbandale, daughter Ciera Elizabeth Swackhamer, 22 of Des Moines, father Fred Sample (Sherry Hess) of Potosi, WI, mother Betty Sample of Urbandale, step-mother and step-father Rhonda and Jerry Jordan of East Dubuque, IL, sister Jennifer (Cory) Heim, nieces Alexis Uptegraph and Ella Heim, nephews Cole Heim and Wyatt Cruse, brother Jeremiah (Kristalyn) Sample, nephews Frederick and Beauregard and niece Evalyn, brother Jonathon (Tina) Sample, niece Mackenzie and nephew Jack.

Amy Jo was known for her love of retail and clothing. Her customer service was always top notch and she never failed to make you smile if you talked to her. She had a serious passion for Madonna, Journey, NKOTB, basically anything 80's/90's genre.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life following at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 21st at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 8301 Aurora Ave., Urbandale, IA 50322. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Amy. Condolences and cards/sympathies can be sent to the church or to the family at 4109 73rd Place, Urbandale, IA 50322.
