Somyott Tum was born December 8, 1959, in Battambang, Cambodia and passed away August 9, 2019, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Somyott moved to the United States in 1979 and earned his citizenship in 2012. He spent most of his adult life in California. He was a proud father, raising two sons on his own. He was a hardworking man and instilled this strong ethic in his children. He was musically gifted and a drummer/lead singer in a band. He loved cars, fishing, and was an amazing cook.

Somyott will be remembered as a caring and helpful man. He made the best out of any situation. He was straightforward and honest, oftentimes telling you like it was. Somyott was well liked and had countless friends around the world.

Somyott is survived by his sons, Yavari Somyott and Sandyran Somyott (Jessica); grandchildren, Theo and Kian Somyott; father, Tun Chhem; siblings, Sophoey Chhem (Vyrak), Samnap Chhem (Stacey), Souy Ngeam Chhom McKelley (Chris), and Somsak Chhom (Lena). He was preceded in death by his mother, Ream Chup and brother, Dara Chhem.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2019, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Following cremation, he will travel to his final resting place, with loved ones who have passed in Long Beach, California.
