Russell Dearden, 85, passed away June 4, 2019 at Unity Point Health Des Moines Methodist.

Russell was born October 12, 1933 in Des Moines to John and Marguerite (Fackler) Dearden. He graduated from Lincoln High School. Russell served in the United States Army. He retired from Meredith/RR Donnelley after 43 years of service. Russell was a member of Graphic Communications Local 518. He enjoyed doing yardwork, camping, fishing, basically, anything outdoors. Russell loved to spend time with his grandkids. One of their favorite pastimes together was gathering and cracking walnuts. He also had a passion for old cars. He enjoyed shining and driving them.

Russell is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jane Dearden; children, Susan (Mark) Woods, Mark Dearden, Brian (Melinda Burriola) Dearden and Cindy (Greg) Smith; grandchildren, Lacey, Madison, Payton, and Emily Woods, Korey Dearden, Ava Burriola, and Jorden, Carter, Brooklyn, Jayce, Kaylee, and Janessa Smith; great-grandson, Reyden; and a host of extended family and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Michelle Dearden; granddaughter, Morgan Woods; and his sisters, Peggy Bone and Rosemary Dearden.

The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 pm Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Russell.
