Janice (Nelson) Carra

Janice (Nelson) Carra, 78, passed away at her home on April 13, 2019.

Janice was born August 6, 1940 in Des Moines to Lee and Evah Nelson. She worked in housekeeping for many years. Janice was an avid collector, some of which was curb collecting and she had a purpose for everything. She was always thinking of others. Janice had a generous heart and would give anyone the shirt off of her back and not expect anything in return. She was always feeding the neighborhood animals, as well as people. Janice loved to tell stories and off color jokes. Above all else, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Janice is survived by her children, Richard “Rick” Nelson, Jack Lee Carra, Phil Carra, Lucy Phipps, Frank Carra and Susan Hensley; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Arlys Cudo, John Nelson, Jim Nelson and Jerry Nelson; and a host of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lloyd; sister, Coralie Winkle; and her husband, Jack F. Carra, Jr.;

The family will greet friends Saturday, April 20, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with the funeral services to follow at 12 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
