Service Details

Beverly Ann (Maneely) Craig, 86, died April 9, 2019 surrounded by family at The Lighthouse at Lakeside Village, her home the last four years in Omaha, NE. She was born July 19, 1932 in Des Moines, IA and graduated from East High School – Lee Township – in 1950. She was united in holy matrimony to Darrell Craig on July 30, 1955. Beverly worked in the medical field her entire life, primarily with Iowa Methodist Medical Center and its affiliates, until her retirement from Radiation Oncology in 1995. Her medical knowledge was so vast and authoritative, some of her grandchildren assumed Grandma Bev was a doctor. Beverly was a devoted wife and mother, but one who particularly relished her role as grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an avid card and game player, crossword and puzzle solver, knitter, crocheter, quilter and seamstress, and long-time square dancer and round dancer.

Beverly suffered a debilitating stroke in 2009, robbing her of speech and mobility. She did not lose her determined will, and continued to persevere for more than nine years. She and Darrell moved to Omaha in 2010 to be closer to their children, who could then oversee their needs at care facilities. The family is deeply grateful for the love and attention shown her by her caregivers at the Lighthouse.

Beverly is survived by daughter, Julie (Jack) Schuler of Indianola, IA; sons, Patrick (Doug Weber) of Omaha, NE, Rick (Cindy Wallace) of Greensboro, NC, Doug (Dilu Nicholas) of Louisville, KY; daughters, Laurie (Greg) Porter of Omaha, NE and Carrie (Lance) Whitacre of Hudson, WI; grandchildren, Jacob Schuler, Jon (Whitney) Schuler, Maggie Whitacre, Ellie Whitacre, John Porter, and Ann Porter; great-grandchildren, Ava, Sophia, and Olivia Schuler; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Darrell; parents, Elbert (Bud) and Flossie (Hill) Maneely; and brothers, Dick and Bob.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 11 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 7075 Ashworth Road, West Des Moines, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, April 12, 2019 from 4 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
