Edward M. "Flip" Leonard, Jr.

Flip Leonard, 70, passed away on February 6, 2019, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny. He was born in Charlotte, NC on April 13, 1948, the son of Ned and Joy Leonard.

Flip graduated from Tech High School in 1966 and served in the United States Navy during Vietnam from 1967-1971. He spent his career working at John Deere Ankeny Plant as a machinist, retiring in 2010. Flip enjoyed restoring and trading classic automobiles. One of his greatest joys in life was playing pool. He was a very skilled billiards player, often winning tournaments and championships.

Flip is survived by his son, E.M. (Amy) of West Des Moines, IA and their children, Alana and Edward Leonard, IV “Mickey”, daughter, Jennifer (Billy) Meyer of Ripon, CA and their children, Lexi and Josh Meyer, daughter, Chris (Dan) Hartman of Ankeny, IA and their children, Amanda Hartman and Matt (Katie) Hartman and their child, Meredith Hartman, son, Mike Leonard of Collins, IA and his son, Nick Leonard, son, Joshua C. Knight; He was preceded in death by his parents, Joy Leonard Gordon and Edward Leonard, Sr.; daughter, Joy E. Knight; and brother, Robert E. Leonard.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, February 10, 2019, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will be at 1p.m., on Monday, February 11, 2019, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City, Iowa.
