Robert D. Hertz

Bob Hertz, 81, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 16, 2019. He was born February 24, 1937, in Rolfe, Iowa to Elmer and Velma Hertz.

Bob retired from Frye Manufacturing after more than 34 years and then went on to work for the Polk County Sheriff’s Department. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and was an avid volunteer. Robert also enjoyed spending time at the Scott 4-Mile Senior Center.

Bob is survived by his children, Lynda (Don) Hills and John Hertz; grandchildren, Kara (Travis) Nible, Don Allen Hills, Derrik (Jessica) Hills, and Talia Hertz; sister, Janice Thompson; and his brother, Marvin Hertz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirl Ann; daughter-in-law, Christine; brothers, Don and Mike; and his sister, Joan.

Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 3-6 p.m.
