Service Details
Roger Erwin Arndt, 84, passed away January 17, 2019 at Taylor House. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA with visitation on Friday, January 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. and the service on Saturday, January 26 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Roger was born July 24, 1934 in Des Moines, IA to Erwin and Lela (Davis) Arndt. He served in the Iowa Air Guard and worked as a Commercial Artist for Plain Talk Printing, DICO, and as a self-employed artist. Roger also volunteered at the Knoxville Raceway as a videographer and as a track photographer, he was an avid racing fan. Roger also enjoyed radio control auto racing and hockey.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Roos Arndt; daughters, Liz (Frank) Hudson and Becky (Mike) Tew; grandchildren, Matt (Natalie), Jeff and Nate Hudson, and Ryan, Jenny and Justin Tew. Roger was preceded in death by his parents.

Roger and I were born in the same year and grew up on the same block in Beaverdale. We never had classes together although we attended the same elementary school, junior high and high school. Since I left Iowa shortly after graduating from high school I did not have personal acquaintance or contacts with Roger for many years. He and I met and chatted at a post office about ten years ago when I was visiting in Des Moines. He told me about his interest in race cars. His parents and mine had lived through the Great Depression in Des Moines, during which there was a much warmer sense of neighborhood and community than since, except during WWII. I think Roger and I had many beliefs and sentiments in common as a result of our family and school experiences during those years. I salute his memory and extend my condolences to his family.

I worked with Roger a few years at Wallace Farmer on Grand Ave.
We had some times there. I was a camera operator and stripper.
