Austin P. Gainuss, 22, passed away January 1, 2019, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born May 16, 1996, in Des Moines, to Tara Vanderpool and Ryan Gainuss.
Austin graduated from Carlisle High School in 2015 and was currently serving in the United States Navy. He enjoyed fishing, camping, riding motorcycles, playing video games, attending concerts, and spending time with his family and friends.
Austin is survived by his daughter, Raelynn Irene Gainuss and her mother, Cassie; mom, Tara (Aaron) Holder; dad, Ryan (Mandy Jurgensen) Gainuss; sisters, Madison Gainuss, Josie Gainuss, Alexis Holder, and Ashlynn Holder; grandparents, William “Bill” Vanderpool Sr., Guyneth (Leonard) Hartfield, Jim (Mildred) Gainuss, Luann Kline, Charles and Linda Holder; uncles and aunts, Bill (Toni) Vanderpool Jr., Billie Jo (Terry Onstank) Vanderpool, Marlene Ruby, Michelle (Gary) Rasmussen, Dan Dahle, Bailey Harrison, Kaylinn Croft, Michael Croft-Kline, Lisa Narber, Tina Chapman, Amanda (Daniel) Steffens, April (Patrick) Stamper, and Amy (Scott) Siemer; as well as other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandma, Linda Vanderpool and paternal grandpa, Edward Kline, as well as his great-grandparents and other loving relatives.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Adel, Iowa. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Monday evening from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Our condolences and prayers for Austin and his entire family. Our son, LT JT Goetz was assigned to the USS Reagan and passed away in October 2018. We will keep all of you in our prayers as I am sure the next several months will be difficult.

I am so very sorry for your loss, Guyneth and Bill and Tara and all the family. I am Guyneths childhood friend and had the pleasure of sharing a lunch with Austin and Guyneth a while back at Bills wifes funeral . I was so impressed by his kindness and military bearing. He was an exceptional young man.
