Florence Stanley

Florence Stanley, daughter of Howard (Jim) and Dessie Smallwood, born December 29, 1933, having suffered the indignities and travails of this world for 84 years, 11 months, 19 days, she went to rest at last December 18, 2018.

She was born in Hannibal, Missouri and spent time in California and Colorado before settling down in Iowa. Florence loved reading and was especially fond of the works of Stephen King and John Patterson. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and Denver Broncos fan. Florence enjoyed a nice glass of wine and cooking for her family. She will be remembered for her delicious fried chicken.

Florence was a mother to Gene, Karen Louise, Dexter, Bob, Debbie, Mike, Rick, Karen Annette, Larry, Terry and Sherri, and not to forget Sophie. She was preceded in death by her husband William Stanley, children Debbie and Mike, parents Jim and Dessie, and brother Howard Paul Smallwood.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Services will conclude with interment at Glendale Cemetery.
