Gary Suong Lovan, 81, was surrounded by family when he passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 16th, 2018. He was born on October 10th, 1937 in Mueang Muoi, Sonla, North Vietnam to the late Mr. Tun Lovan and Mrs Feng Lothi. Suong’s biological mother passed when he was three years old. His father remarried to Khoy Lothi whom raised him and five of his older siblings. 

Suong immigrated to Hanoi, Vietnam in 1952 and moved to Laos in 1954 where he met his wife, IA B. Lovan. In December of 1979, Suong and his family moved to Nong Khai, Thailand where they lived in a refugee camp for 10 months. In 1980, Suong and his family resettled in the United States. 

Suong was a diligent and hard working man who took great care of his family. He was employed with Iowa Beef Processing Plant in Storm Lake, IA for 13 years. In 1993, he and his family moved to Des Moines, IA. He worked for Grace Label Company before he retired at the age of 62. 

Suong was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was loving, kind, generous, and always cared for others. Suong will be remembered for his sharp and intelligent mind. He was very involved with the Asian community. He enjoyed gatherings with his family and friends. 

He is survived by his wife, IA B. Lovan; his four children:, Sengmany (Saykham) Phouthavong, Christine Baypong (Bone) Chandavong, Kalouny Lovan, Bounthieng Lovan; eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Tun (Feng) Lovan,, stepmom, Khoy Baccam and daughter, Douangmaly Lovan.
