Richard Dale Chambers

Richard Chambers, 80, passed away on November 18, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. He was the son of Kenneth and Maxine Reilley.

Richard graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1957 and proudly served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1967. He was a longtime member of the Acanthus Lodge, the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, where he was part of the Minibike Unit, drove school bus for Des Moines Public Schools for 12 years and spent over 40 years working at Fessler Carbonic Gas.

Being a handyman, Richard enjoyed building things. He was an outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting and target shooting. Richard also liked eating out and watching game shows. With his fun loving personality, he was known to leave the house to get an “oil change” only to return with a new car. Playing cards and bingo at Cutty’s was one of his favorite times with family. He adored his family and the time he spent with them.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Carrie (Brad) Bennett; grandchildren, Cameron and Casey Bennett; fiancé, Mary and her loving family.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Friday, November 23, 2018, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Ave., Des Moines. The family will receive visitors Friday from 11a.m. to 1 p.m., at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines.
