Jesse L. Camp, 72, passed away October 31, 2018, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born April 27, 1946, in Des Moines, to Virgil and Lela Camp.

Jess was a North High School graduate. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, 1st Calvary ARO 96374, serving his country during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

Jess began his career in heating and cooling as a sheet metal worker. He was self-employed throughout his life and retired from Metro Heating and Cooling after many years of faithful service.

Jess had a great love for the outdoors. Whether he was fishing, hunting, camping, trapping, gardening, or cooking, he loved sharing the experiences with his grandchildren. Jess had a passion for cat fishing and seemed to always walk away with the big trophy after catfish tournaments.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Jess was his grandchildren’s #1 fan, always cheering them on at their various sporting events and dance performances. He left an impression on everyone he met.

Jess is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Karen Camp; children, Wes (Carolyn) Camp, Valarie (Chris) Sanders, and Matt (Molly) Camp; 9 grandchildren, Jake, Katie, Mackenzie, Jaden, Ryker, Mabry, Kyner, Ketyn, and Maiya; sister, Rose (Berry) Moon; many nieces and nephews, as well as other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Lela, and his brother, David Camp.

A celebration of his life will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2018, at the Maxwell Community Center, 84 Main Street, Maxwell, IA 50161. The family encourages those attending to wear bibs, camo, or Green Bay Packers attire.

In loving memory of Jess, memorial contributions may be directed to John Stoddard Powell 3, 1221 Pleasant Street, Des Moines, IA 50309.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Powell 3 for their kindness and the exceptional care Jess received.
