Jack R. Smith, Sr.

Jack R. Smith, Sr., age 85, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 16, 2018 surrounded by his family.

Jack was born June 24, 1933, in Des Moines to Willie and Velda Smith.

Jack enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball, gardening and eating. He was most happy spending time with his family and grandchildren. Jack loved telling stories and being the life of the party.

He is survived by his sons, William Smith (Cindy) and Jack R. Smith II; 7 grandchildren, Shane, Skylar, Connor, Jacob, Nathan, Dillon, and Samantha Smith; 4 great grandchildren, Hayden and Branson Sadler and Emarie and Sawyer Smith; brother, Ronald Smith; and step-sisters, Barbara, Rose, Violet and Mary Ann.

Jack was preceded in death by his first wife (Helen), second wife (Sarah), his parents, one sister (Frances) and two brothers (Donald and Robert).

There will be a celebration of life from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday October 20, 2018, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Graveside service will take place at Avon Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
