Linda Jean Gilson

Linda Jean Gilson, 72, passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 at her home in Des Moines, surrounded by her family. She was born December 22, 1945 in Des Moines, IA to Earl McPherson and Margaret (Behanish) McPherson. She worked as a secretary for Olivetti Corporation and a collections specialist for Capitol Collections before pursuing her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse working first at Fountain West, then at Broadlawns Medical Center. She was a caring person, a devoted wife, loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed long-term friendships, planting flowers, knitting, reading, playing cards, getting together with friends and family, and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her mother Margaret McPherson, father Earl McPherson, brother Stephen McPherson, and granddaughter Melissa Toillion, as well as her beloved pets Kelly, Matilda, Roxie, Macy, Abby and Callie. She is survived by her husband David Gilson of Des Moines, sister Sue McPherson of Nevada, children Faith (Shaun) Anderson of Des Moines, Hope (Gary) Kephart of San Diego, Scott Henderson of Des Moines, Lisa Wysong of Des Moines, and Shanna (Christopher) Timler of Waterloo, 7 granddaughters, 5 grandsons, 6 great grandchildren, a niece and 2 nephews.

There will be a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Street, Des Moines. Burial of the urn will take place at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, October 18 at Glendale Cemetery.
