Molly Dee Cumings

Molly (Dee) Cumings, 86, of Des Moines, died of a heart ailment on Sunday evening, October 7, 2018. Family and friends will gather to pay their final respects at 10:00am on Thursday, October 11 at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines. There will be a brief prayer service at Laurel Hill at 10:15am. The service at the cemetery will be followed by an 11:00am Celebration of Life at Hope Lutheran Church, 3857 E. 42nd Street in Des Moines. The 11:00am service will be followed by a luncheon and time of fellowship in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Hope Lutheran Church in Des Moines as Dee’s church community held a special place in her heart. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers for Dee will be: Ryan Cumings-Menon, Drew Cumings-Peterson, Robert Weis, Roland Weis, Jeff Walker and Tom Woods.

Dee was born near Sioux City, Iowa to Blanche and Clarence Stevens. She lived in Des Moines most of her life with her husband, Everett, who passed in 2000. Everett and Dee were blessed with two children; Michael and Wendy. Wendy passed in infancy. Michael, his wife, Roxanne, and their children, Drew and Ryan, enjoyed living nearby Grandma Dee. Dee is survived by three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Grandson, Ryan and his wife, Suvarna; Grandson, Drew, his wife, Cassie, and their children Finnegan and Eleanor; and Grandson, Mike Jr., his wife, Lisa and Mike Jr.’s son, Zac. Also left to mourn Dee’s passing are her sisters, Cheryl and Darlys and a host of friends, particularly her friends at the Four Mile Senior Center and at Hope Lutheran Church.

Dee was an avid walker, up until a week before her death, averaging 20-25 miles a week at the Four Mile Senior Center in Des Moines. She also loved to read, solve crossword puzzles, put together 1000 piece puzzles, and shop for bargains. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and, in recent years, loved watching her great-grandchildren, Finn and Ellie, at play; they gave her great joy. Dee will be dearly missed by her family and friends who are left to cherish her memory.
