Armond DeFino, age 93, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully with his family on September 6th. He was born in Des Moines on April 25th 1925 to the parents of Domonick and Rose DeFino (Lavia). He was happily married to Elizabeth DeFino (Betty Lorenzano) for 67 years.

Armond, known as Papa by his family, proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII, He owned and managed Des Moines Ornamental Iron, and several other businesses. He worked at Massey Ferguson and also held multiple patents.

He enjoyed baking, gardening, and woodworking, but his proudest accomplishment was his loving family. He was a devoted husband and father and adored his wife, nothing short of a storybook tale.

Papa created more than he consumed and gave more than he took. He loved with his whole heart. The legacy of Armond’s kind spirit, passion for life, smile, and sense of humor, will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Armond was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Bellizzi Mac Rae American Legion Post #659 and Society of Italian Americans.

Armond is survived by his loving wife Betty, his daughter Karen Ausen (John), his three sons Domonick (Vickie), Armond (Holly), and Louis (Julie), his sisters Jenny Reed and Lucrecia Cimino, brother Anthony DeFino, sister-in-law Lynn DeFino, his 10 grandchildren, Nicol (Marcus) Jones, Danielle Ausen, Angela (Mark) McCormick, Catherine DeFino, Emily Toulouse, Anthony DeFino, Gabby DeFino, Ally DeFino, Nicholas Toulouse and Sophia DeFino, 8 great grandchildren, Gianna, Dominic, Liam, Aria, Gabe, Sera, Niko and Lochlan and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Joseph, and Frank.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, September 10, 2018 with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. followed by a Rosary at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.

The family asks that donations be given to St. Anthony’s Parish.
