Mary Durlacher Flaherty, born September 4, 1934, to Emma (Ogden) Durlacher and Julius Durlacher, died July 15, 2018. Married to Jerry Flaherty, a veteran of the Korean War, they were some of the original residents of Sheridan Park. Jerry and Mary recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary, were voted Prom King and Queen at Parkridge. Mary loved her family and roses. She was a Cub Scout den mother, Camp Fire Girls leader and a past president of the PTA. As a Winnie Corn, she and Jerry enjoyed RV travel. Retired from the United Way of Central Iowa, she previously worked for World Book, Avon, Per Mar and the Patterson Law firm. A lifelong Baptist she was a member of Forest Avenue and Calvary Baptist churches. Mary is survived by her husband and three children, Daniel (Kathleen), Randal (Linda), Kathleen and their children, Scott (Katie), Lacy, Amy, Eric, Colleen (Joshua), Nicholas (Rocio), Shane (Ashley), Amber (James), Nadia, nine great grandchildren with another due in October, and her Cocker Spaniel Cuddles, whom she cherished. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Animal Rescue League or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Friday, July 20, 2018, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 21, also at Hamilton’s, and will conclude with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
