Elnora E. McCoy, 87, passed away July 14, 2018, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. She was born November 3, 1930, in Warren County, Iowa, to Alva and Wilma Higdon.

Elnora was a member of Ankeny First United Methodist Church. She was united in marriage to Ronald Wickett in May 1949 and had four children. Later in life she married Larry McCoy and gained two stepchildren.

Elnora was a true matriarch and cherished time spent with her family. She loved family gatherings, especially during the holidays when she made cookies with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always having cookies in the freezer and was known as “Grandma Cookie.” Elnora also enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s events.

In her younger years, she was very athletic and played basketball and softball. She enjoyed watching college sports especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones, and UNI Panthers. Elnora also enjoyed traveling and square dancing.

Elnora is survived by her children, Maribeth (Jim) Burr, Jeff (Twila) Wickett, and Jennifer (Jeff) Slump; stepchildren, Jean (D.T.) Montgomery and Mark McCoy; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way; daughter-in-law, Vickie Wickett; her brother, Richard (Marilyn) Higdon; sister-in-law, June Higdon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other loving family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; parents, Alva and Wilma Higdon; son, Fred; 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m.
