“Smoke” Stewart passed away on July 4, 2018 surrounded by his family at the age of 70. He leaves behind a family who will miss his “bigger than life” character, his humor and his love.

Smoke was born December 3, 1947, the son of Alma and John Stewart. He was a great baseball player, playing in Little League through high school ball at North High School where he was a 1966 graduate.

Smoke began teaching at computer education school at the age of 19. From there he went to work for Coors in Golden, CO as a payroll analyst. At an early age with his entrepreneurial spirit he went into the bar business in Las Vegas, Denver and finally in Ankeny. After selling his bar he went into the dry wall business. He then started his own company, Stewart Construction Service. Smoke retired in 2016.

Smoke loved boats, cars, good wine and spending time with his family and friends. He leaves behind his wife, Moni with whom he enjoyed 23 years of traveling and new adventures. They were soul mates from the start. He never missed a day in reminding her how much he loved her. Smoke is also survived by his daughters, Angie (Jeff) Hockett and Deb Stutchel, stepson, Brandon (Tara) DeGroote, and step-daughter, Shannon (Ryan) Mahnke; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his sister, Lila Jane; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, John Stewart and brother, Tom Stewart.
