Service Details

Ronald R. Culver, 94, passed away June 6, 2018, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, where he received wonderful care for five years.

Ronald was born July 30, 1923, to Dalby Roy Culver and Zae Alice Murphy in Adair County, Iowa, and was raised on a farm in Greenfield, Iowa. Because of a hearing issue, he didn’t qualify for military service so he moved to California and built B-17 Bombers. He was very proud of that service during WWII.

Ronald enjoyed fishing in Illinois with his brother Dale, hunting, gardening, and looking for treasures at the D.A.V. and the Brass Armadillo.

Later in life, he was thrown into severe dementia after four strokes and would often say, “I’m getting out of here and moving to CA.” Recently he told an aid at Sunny View that he wanted a cigarette, but was never a smoker.

Ronald is survived by his son, Ronald D. (Ann) of Des Moines, daughters, Jane Culver of Arizona and Judy (Steve) McBee of Ankeny. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lila, his parents, and brother, Dale of Illinois.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 11, 2018, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Avenue in Des Moines.
