Christine State

Christine Ann (Gardner) State, age 53, of Runnells, Iowa, passed away June 5, 2018, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa surrounded by her family after battling brain tumors for 22 years.

Chris was a loving wife and mother to four children. Chris was born in South Portland, Maine. She met her husband, Jerry in 1985 in Connecticut while he was in the U. S. Submarine Service. They married in 1985 after a whirlwind romance. In 1987, Chris and Jerry settled down in Runnells, Iowa to build their life.

Chris gave birth to four children and was a stay-at-home mom. Once her youngest went off to school, Chris worked for Southeast Polk School District for a number of years. She made sure that her children and their friends had a cookie in each hand. Chris enjoyed spending time with her family and her dogs and cats. She was willing to share advice to all who asked.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jerry State; children, Racheal (Zachary) Gibbons and their son Maddox, Sandra, Jessica (Jeremy) McCullough, and Jerry; three dogs, Lola, Roxie and Lily; and two cats, Howard and Lucy. Chris was preceded in death by her parents, David and Ruth Gardner; sisters, Vera Haskell and Ruth Ouellette; brother, David Gardner; dogs, Muffin, Blackie and Bonnie; and cat, Twinkie.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, June 10, 2018, followed immediately by a reception, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 11, also at Hamilton’s, with burial at Oakwood Cemetery, Pleasant Hill.
