Karen Coleen Allsup, 69, was born November 26, 1948 in Newton, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Mary (Stamp) Preston. She passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Karen retired from Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company after many years of faithful service. She enjoyed shopping, traveling and always appreciated a snazzy car. Above all else, she treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Karen is survived by her loving husband of almost 50 years, Bill Allsup; sons, Chad Allsup and Griffin (Sarah) Allsup; grandchildren, Taylor, Cole, Evan and Levi; sisters, Margie Broeffle and Shirley (Don) Huffaker; numerous nieces and nephews; other loving relatives and many special friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Minnie Morris.
Cremation has occurred and private services will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Karen.

In moments like these, we tend to rely on ourselves and we forget the power that prayer can have, it can give us the strength that we need and when we need it. My husband David and I lived in Wolf Creek down the road from Karen and Bill. Karen cared deeply about her family, her neighbors, and her pets. She loved to talk and get to know people and she loved to help. Praying comfort for you all who are grieving her loss

Karen and I met in grade school when her family moved to our neighborhood, they lived in the house located in the trailer park up the street from us. We met up again in later years in high school. It has been fun keeping our friendship going on Facebook. Prayers for her family.

My cousin has already posted her condolences and I, too, remember Karen from Lincoln Elementary all the way up through high school. My husband and I both graduated with Karen. Prayers for her family and friends as they grieve her loss.
