Service Details

Our mother, Peung Quang Thi was born on July 5, 1931 in Muang Tang Xiang Li, Vietnam. She was born to Pheuang Quang Vanh and Pang Quang Thi. She was the eldest to 2 younger sisters. At the tender age of 13, she was injured due to an explosion and was hospitalized in Hanoi. This caused her be separated from her family. During this time, our mother met our father, Kung Leuang Vanh.

My father and mother were married and together they migrated to Laos, where they started their own family consisting of 10 children. My mother is survived by 5 sons, 5 daughters, 25 grandkids, and 16 great grandkids. After the Vietnam War, they escaped to Thailand where they stayed in the refugee camps. In 1980, our family was sponsored by Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Asheville, NC. Six years later our parents decided to move our family to Des Moines, IA to be closer to our Taidam community. During her life here in Des Moines, my mother lived a happy and fulfilled life with my father. She had a strong hand in raising her children to become successful in their own fields.

On August 13, 2000, our father passed away leaving our mother to be on her own for the first time in her life. She learned to be independent and self-sufficient. Over the last few years, her health slowly declined due to her age, her failing heart, and her diabetes. On April 28th, 2018 she was hospitalized after fainting. During this hospitalization we were informed that her health was taking a turn for the worse. All of us began preparing for the time that our mother would be leaving us to join our father. On May 12, 2018 in the early morning hours, our mother passed away quietly in her sleep.

We love our mother dearly, but we know that she is in a better place. She will always be with us watching over us and guiding us through life.
