John Roland, 48, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
John was born June 6, 1969, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from South East Polk High School and Iowa State University. John served in the Army Reserves and the U. S. Navy. John worked in the Travel Industry and later he worked in Sales. He enjoyed traveling, watching movies, and was an avid reader.
John is survived by his wife, Sara Roland; siblings, Carol (Mike) Holmes, Donna Schmeling, JoAnn Harvey, Jerry (Michele) Roland; his beloved dog, Mongo; aunt, Mary Hutson; uncle, Albert (Pam) Hutson; numerous nephews, a niece and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Roland. His dog Nikita also preceded him in death.
There will be an interment ceremony with military honors at 9:30AM, Monday, April 23 at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Animal Rescue League or the Des Moines Veterans Hospital in memory of John.

To the man I grew up with. That taught me to drive, played board games many weekends, fished alot together and many other things as we grew up together. I looked to you as a big brother more than an uncle. Thank you for a great life growing up together
