She passed away from brain cancer peacefully at her home surrounded by the love and comfort of her family on Sunday, April 8, 2018. Throughout her illness, Maria continued to fight with sweetness, gratitude, humor, and faith.

Maria is survived by her children, Madison, Jimmie, Sheridan and Landon Schuessler; grandchildren, Keeley and Lennox; parents, George and Nannette Coon; sisters, Melanie Coon, Melisse (Brian) Leopold, and Melinda (Steven) Fontanini; parents-in-law, Jim and Janet Schuessler; many nieces and nephews; as well as brothers and sisters-in-law; other loving family and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Doug Schuessler; niece, Amanda Fontanini; and brother, Jeff Thomas.

Maria received a business degree from the University of Iowa and worked as a commercial real estate agent for Denny Elwell Company for many years. With her ambitious outlook and determination, Maria designed a software program, developed the Parks and Rec program for Polk City, owned and operated a holiday décor shop in Polk City, and established a café in Alleman.

Maria had a free spirit, a creative mind, and a positive outlook on life. Her greatest gift to everyone was her big heart and selfless nature. Above all else, she was devoted to her children and family, and cherished their time spent together.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Maria Schuessler Memorial Fund, First American Bank, 2010 N. Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny, IA 50023.
