Service Details

Dorothy Helen Boothe, 82, of Clive, IA passed away in Des Moines on March 14, 2018. A reception in Dorothy’s honor will be held Friday, March 23, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA.

Dorothy was born in Wyaconda, MO on April 27, 1935. Her family moved to Burlington, IA where she met Darrell “Dewey” Boothe while in high school. Few knew that Dorothy was recruited by the FBI while in high school. She turned them down and married Dewey.

Dorothy was known for her great cooking and baking skills. She loved crafting, puzzles, and played a mean game of Scrabble. Dorothy was a devoted life-long fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and watched them at every opportunity. She was especially known for having a quick, sarcastic wit and was also a jokester. She once convinced fellow workers that the engine had been stolen from the front of her 1965 VW Beetle. (The VW had the engine in the rear of the car).

Dorothy worked for 25 years in the couple’s six Baskin Robbins stores in Des Moines and Ames. She was a favorite of customers and employees alike. Later she worked as a receptionist in several medical offices in Des Moines.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her youngest son, Jerry. She is survived by her husband, Darrell; sons, Mike and Doug; and daughter-in-law, JoAnn Boothe.

The family would like to thank the staff at Kavanagh House for their care and attention to Mom during her stay there. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
