Mary E. Flanery

Mary Etta Flanery, 83, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018. Mary was born March 30, 1934, in Guthrie Center, Iowa to Tom and Velma Flanery. She was known as “Mom” and “Grandma” to many. Mary loved her family above all else. She enjoyed playing cards and listening to all types of music. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Broadlawns Medical Center.

Mary is survived by her children, Teresa Beeler of Des Moines, Patricia Pasco of Altoona, Dixie (Bruce) Daggett of Des Moines, Darrell (Andra) Ewing of Ankeny, Tony Ewing of Des Moines, Junior (Ro) Higgins of Des Moines, and Juanita (Martin) Flores of Des Moines. She is also survived by her sister, Josie (Earnest) Hoy of Panora, 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her son, John Ewing, parents, Tom and Velma Flanery, and siblings, Kathryn Barker, Tony Flanery, and Agnes Long.

A memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th St, Des Moines. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Please join the family for a luncheon to be held at Eagles Lodge, 6567 Bloomfield Rd, Des Moines after the services.
