Bernadine M. Kouri passed away March 6, 2018, age 101 years, 3 months and 13 days. Born in Springfield, Illinois on November 21, 1916, the daughter of John and Nettie Kirkpatrick. She was the last surviving member of her family. Raised on a farm in Dana, Iowa, a graduate of Dana High School. Bernadine resided in Ankeny, and later moved to Des Moines, Iowa. She met her husband, Thomas Kouri at a Washington Day Dance. They raised four children.

During her life, she was a homemaker, worked at Boyt Harness Co., and was a retired cook from Food Service of Des Moines Public Schools. Bernadine was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church and a member of the Young Phoenician Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Russell and Dale Kirkpatrick, and sisters, Mildred and Bernice Kirkpatrick, Muriel Brill and Elaine Hicks.

Surviving family members are daughters, Treva Simon, Janice Kouri, and Marilyn Perryman of Pleasantville, son, Thomas Kouri (Lisa) of Arcadia, and grandchildren, Heidi, Heather, Frank, Rebecca, Eric and Noah.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with funeral service to begin at 1 p.m., Monday, March 12, 2018, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Bernadine had a strong faith. She always lived life in hope and love, and will be deeply missed. Memorial contributions may be directed to Wesley United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
