Ruby Tilton - Short

Des Moines

Ruby Coleen Tilton-Short, 84, was born on December 11, 1933 and entered into Eternal Rest on March 4, 2018.

Ruby married Donald L. Short in 1951, and is survived by their five children, Donald “Gene” (Shelly) Short, Jacqueline (Jim) Adams, Sharon (Steve) Love, Vicki (Tim) Hark, and Jerry (Phyllis) Short, 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law, Judith Short.

She was preceded in death by her father, Earnest H. Tilton, mother, Helen S. Tilton, brother, Earnest (Bud) Tilton, sister, Georgia (Miller) Chase and previous husband, Donald L. Short.

Ruby was a 60+ year member of the Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd where she served as Secretary and as a Sunday School and Confirmation Teacher. Over the years she was employed at Look Magazine, Whitaker’s Drug Store, Pester Derby, Grey Hound Bus, Link Associates, and most recently was a Senior Companion. She also served as a Cub Scout Leader and Church Youth Leader for many years.

Services for Ruby will be held at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 3820 SW Ninth St., Des Moines, IA 50315 on Friday, March 9, 2018. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 am, followed directly by the funeral service at 11:00 am. A social with refreshments for family and friends will be provided immediately following the funeral service, also at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Mercy Hospice House in Johnston, IA or to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Ruby’s Memory.
