Cheum Lovan’s Life
1924 - 2018

Cheum Lovan was born June 10, 1924, in Moung Lam Nam Ma Xa Yen Hung. He was the son of Lovan Sane and Lothi Cu.

Cheum served in the French Army from 1948 to 1954. He also served in the Royal Lao Army from 1958 to 1960. After that he met and married Song Lothi and together they had two sons, Thoan and Neung Lovan and raised a daughter, Neu Cavan. Thoan and Song predeceased him in 1988 and 2008 respectively.

Cheum took his family to the Thailand camp and then brought them to the United States of America in 1980. He worked at the Embassy Suites Hotel downtown until he retired at the age of 65.

Cheum belonged to three associations: T.H.C.D., SOTAF (Society of Thaidam American Friendship), and KADSAN Thaidam Society.

He was very well respected by the Asian community. He was a man that made no enemies and a friend to all. Cheum is survived by two children: Neu and Neung; five grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren.

Cheum battled his illness for the past ten years. He finally could rest in peace on Saturday, February 10th, 2018.

Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines.
