Joyce Brus

Joyce M. Brus, 82, passed away January 21, 2018, at her home in Ankeny. She was born in Colorado to James and Mary (Miser) Winfrey on October 21, 1935.

Joyce is survived by her children, Michelle Starrett, Kim Stroup (Steve), Cindy Lynch and Nick Stuart; grandchildren, Jayme, Kelley and Conrad; one great-grandson; and her sister Evelyn Nelson (Jon). She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, and son, Michael Stuart.

Joyce, graduated from Roosevelt High, then went to Washington DC and worked for the FBI. She lived on a military base in Germany for a few years, and returned
to Iowa and pursued study in Fine Arts at Drake University.

She was an accomplished, awarded artist, attended many Art Fairs, and opened her own Art Studio in Ankeny, where she displayed her art, and gave art lessons. Joyce was honored as a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society. She will also be remembered as a wonderful homemaker.

A joint memorial service for her and her husband, Wayne Brus, will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, February 26, 2018, at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Special Olympics in loving memory of Joyce.
