James A. Frey, 91, passed away January 4, 2018 at Taylor Hospice House. No services are planned at this time.

James was born May 6, 1926 in Des Moines to Austin and Nellie (Gardener) Frey. After graduating from East High School he served in the United States Navy on the USS Jamestown during WWII. James married Janice Pinckney Beener in 1950. He worked for Ford Tractor/Implement before retiring in 1985. Following his retirement, James moved from Michigan to Collins, Iowa where he farmed and raised sheep. He then moved to Norwalk, where he had resided for the past 10 years. James enjoyed card playing with his friends and neighbors, especially cribbage and spending time with his dog Rusty.

James is survived by his son, Robert (Denise) Beener; daughter, Denise Brown; grandchildren, Susan Muller, Brian Beener, Dustin (Chris) Beener and Kara (Steven) Lukens; and great-grandchildren, Joe and Madelynn Muller, Britain Gilgore, Brynnan Foster, Madeline and Allison Lukens and Dakota Beener; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; two sisters; and a brother.
