A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at West Des Moines United Methodist Church, 720 Grand Ave., with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Marshall was born on October 11, 1946, to Marjorie (Murray) and Willard “Bill” Hunzelman in Des Moines. The family later moved to Storm Lake where Marshall graduated from high school. He received both an undergraduate and a law degree from Drake University. He married his sweetheart, Katherine Jane Thompson on September 27, 1969, and the couple raised their family in Beaverdale and later West Des Moines.

An always dedicated and hardworking employee, Marshall worked for the State Insurance Department of Iowa and then was a partner at Whitfield & Eddy Law Firm. He finished his career working for 16 years at Great West Casualty, retiring in 2015 as Vice President and General Counsel. Marshall was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed cheering on his beloved Chicago Cubs and Iowa State Cyclones. He spent his free time coaching Little League Baseball, playing golf, reading and spending time with his nine cherished grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Kathy; son, David (Martha Dennstedt) Hunzelman and their daughter, Abby; daughter, Alissa (Chad) Strauss and their children Samantha, Henry and Charlie; son, Brian (Melissa) Hunzelman and their children Madison and Sydney; daughter, Lindsey (Justin) Sheeder and their children Kiersten, Claira and Reed; his mother, Marjorie Hunzelman; his brother, Murray James (Lynne) Hunzelman; and many dear friends. Marshall was preceded in death by his father, Bill Hunzelman and his sister, Karen Hunzelman.
