Rosemarie Tolson

Rosemarie Tolson, 85, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

She was born May 30, 1932, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mammie (Dixon) Humphrey. Rosemarie graduated from North High School in Des Moines, Iowa. She went on to achieve her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She was employed by the Des Moines Public School System for 25 years.

Rosemarie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She spent time bowling, playing cards, and working puzzle books. Rose was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor Alex Crawford, Jr. presiding, for over 30 years. She was also an honorary member of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor William Cannon and Faith Tabernacle Church of God in Christ under Pastor M. D. Eppright.

Those left to cherish her memory include her brother, Albert C. Humphrey of Escondido, CA; special nieces, Carol L. Smith (Tommy), Sharon Galbreath and Dana Tate; goddaughters, Benola Warder (John) and Carol R. Webster; special nephews, Gerald Galbreath (Faye), Keith Hunter, Orlando Taylor (Roseanna), Kevvin Taylor (Jacque) and Richard Galbreath (Penny); caretakers and lifelong friends, Arlene Bright, Julie Fowler and Jacqueline Williams.

Rosemarie was preceded in death by her father, William “Son” Humphrey; mother, Mammie Meeks Dixon; stepfather, Isiah Dickson; brothers, Willis LeRoy Humphrey, Walter R. Humphrey and James R. Humphrey; sisters, Jocelyn E. Curd, Willia Belle Perry and Valerie Jean Canady; nephew, Kevin Hunter; and lifelong friend, Develma Eubanks

Funeral services will be held at East 17th Street Church of God and Christ on Saturday, December 9, 2017. Family will begin greeting friends at 10:00 a.m., with the funeral service starting at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery after the funeral.
