Richard Carl Bauerle, 86, of West Des Moines, formerly of Ottumwa and Fountain Hills, AZ, passed away November 18, 2017.

Dick was born June 2, 1931 in Carroll, IA to Carl Fredrick and Gertrude Yeater Bauerle. After graduating from Carroll High School in 1949, he attended Iowa State University where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering in 1953. He continued his education at The University of Iowa College of Law earning his Juris Doctor degree in 1956.

He married Jane Mendon in Ames on August 14, 1954.

In 1956 they moved to Roswell, NM where he served in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate Generals Corp. In 1958 he began a fifty-five year career as an attorney in Ottumwa. He was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Ottumwa, The American Bar Association, The Iowa State Bar Association, The Wapello County Bar Association, The Ottumwa Country Club, The Club in Fountain Hills, and a Lifetime Member of The Iowa State University Alumni Association. He served on the Board of Directors of Answer Iowa, Inc., The Wapello County Foundation and The Ottumwa YMCA.

In his spare time Dick enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, traveling and reading.

He is survived by his children, Craig (Karen), West Des Moines; Michael (Kay), Rochester, MN; John, Denver, CO; and Linda, Fountain Hills, AZ; grandchildren, Allison Bauerle Flack (Derek), Waukee; Anna and Megan, Rochester; and great-grandchildren, Easton and Sawyer Flack, Waukee. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Jane after fifty-seven years of marriage.

Services will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Waukee United Methodist Church. Family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
