Warren Jonathan Petersen passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, November 6, 2017 at the age of 92. Warren was born April 11, 1925 to August and Marie (Jebsen) Petersen in Pottawattamie County, Iowa. On August 1, 1959 he married Darlene Cross, the family later moved to Des Moines where Warren worked for Barrick Roofing until retirement in 1987. Warren and Darlene had 4 sons.

Warren had a nickname for everyone and many gave him one as well; he was known affectionately as Hermes, Jake, Pops, Ed, Buck, Bucky, Willy, Wally and Waldo and of course, Dad, Father, to name just a few. Warren enjoyed woodworking; making jewelry boxes and other items which he gifted proudly to his friends and family. He was a Life Member of the Izaak Walton League and loved to attend every Tuesday and volunteer whenever he was able.

There will be a viewing held on Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 5 to 7 pm at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Church, 2500 E. 25th St. in Des Moines, Iowa. Warren will be interred privately at Sunset Memorial Gardens beside his wife of 30 years.

Warren is survived by his sister, Betty Bladt of Minden, Iowa; his sons, Kevin of McKinney, TX, Kerry (Sandy) of West Des Moines, IA, Kyle (Paula) of Harrisburg, PA, Kollin (Teresa) of Urbandale, IA; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many other friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Raymond Petersen (in childhood), Mildred Luth, Marland “Newt” Petersen, Delmar “Curly” Petersen and Aletha Halm; and his wife, Darlene (Cross) Petersen.
