Randy Van Hosen died on March 16, 2008, after his seven month battle with cancer. Randy was born on December 2, 1949 in Des Moines to Bob and Alice Van Hosen.
Randy’s legendary band, Roze, played throughout Iowa for over 30 years, doing a record breaking 1200 live shows, and six recordings of original material that is still being heard today. Randy’s legend is now being kept alive at the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association where Randy was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2006. Randy’s extended family includes all his friends at RHI Printing, where he worked for 15 years. He will be sorely missed by all of his friends with ABATE.
In addition to his mother, Randy is survived by his loving wife, Reven. He also leaves in passing, sister, Pam Turner (Dennis Larson); niece, Shelly Lapidow; nephew, Mike Turner; his band members and very many friends.
Randy meant so much to so many. He was a loving husband, poet, lyricist and composer whose gentle spirit will always be in our hearts. This is not goodbye sweetheart, I’ll see you soon.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2008, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Family will visit with friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
The family requests that all donations be directed to the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association Scholarship Foundation, 91 Lake Street, PO Box 557, Arnolds Park, IA 51331.

I was a friend from Toronto Ont.Canada who met Randy when he was there to avoid the draft many years ago. While there, he lived with Michael McLuhan - son of Marshall of the same name. Really!
I knew Randy for a little while. He was good to me and helped me in a way he probably never knew. Over the years I thought about him and hoped he was happy and living a good life. From what I've read on the net today - he certainly did. He had a magnetic personality and was genuine and sweet.
My sincere sympathy to his wife and family.

I played in the heavy rock act Sin which left Des Moines and went to california in the early 80s. Randy was an inspiration to us and even in Ireland now I check out to see how he is doing and find this sad news. He was an ornament in Des Moines one not to be duplicated, an american original no doubt. Slan go Foil Steve (irish saying) may you be in heaven for an hour before the devil knows your dead

I've known Randy since 1981. He was a great guy who always made me laugh. He will be greatly missed by not only the music industry, but by all of the people who knew him. My prayers and thoughts are with his family during this time. I know he'll still be rockin wherever he is. It was a priviledge and an honor to be his friend. Rock on Randy! RIP

Randy knew the true meaning of standed in Greenfield, Iowa but I rescued him. That was back in 1982 or 1983. We piled 6 people in a little car and headed back to DM to deliver the guys back home. We became really good friends after that. Randy was always a true person. I knew I could always count on him if I needed sound advice and even time when I didn't need it. He was very geniune person. I went my own way and didn't keep in touch with him but I still considered him a friend. We shared alot of fun times together with ROZE (Kevin, Chris, Jeff, Lance, Mark and we can't forget Ed). I've never have forgotten about him and will never forget him. He and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Randy -- you truly Rocked!! Don't stop--rock Heaven and break it in for the rest of us, ok?
