David Mefferd

David Lee Mefferd, 72, passed away October 10, 2017 at the Norwalk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

David was born July 16, 1945 in Orange, California to Jack and Virginia (Blanchard) Mefferd. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963. David retired from John Deere in Ankeny after 30 years of service. He moved to Texas in 1995, where he enjoyed deep sea fishing. In 2009, due to his declining health, David returned to Des Moines. In his younger years, he enjoyed golfing, fishing and camping.

David is survived by his children, Denise Mefferd, Dawn (Pat) Rodgers and David (Beth) Mefferd, Jr.; grandchildren, Amber, Chelsey, Sydney, Ashley, Shane, Brittany, Amy, Destini, Trever and Shiann; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack, Dennis and Jeff Mefferd; sisters, Barbara Bayse, Janice Thompson, Debbie Thompson and Lynette Vetter; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Samuel Mefferd and Karen Aeshliman.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
