John Martin Pierson

John Martin Pierson, 68, passed away October 4, 2017. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, IA with visitation one hour prior. Private entombment will be at The Boaz at the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.

John was born November 26, 1948 to Doris (DeWall) and Elroy Pierson in St. Paul, MN. He graduated from Johnson High School and then from St. Olaf in North Field, MN. John worked as a Leasing Manager for NCMIC Group, Inc. and also enjoyed a creative side career. He was an actor in two movies that were filmed in Des Moines, he did radio voice-overs, and was master of ceremonies for the church building fund. John was also a talented musician, playing the piano by ear, taking guitar lessons, and was a member of Higher Ground singing group at Lutheran Church of Hope. John was also a proud member of the Mason’s Waveland Park Lodge #654.

During his life, John enjoyed hockey and handball and was a member of the Des Moines YMCA Hinder Club. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Twins and the Minnesota Vikings.

John is survived by his wife, Sue; children, Amber (Kris) Goeden and Justin Pierson; grandson, Krew Goeden; and his brother, Gordon (Jan) Pierson.
