Carolyn Carter, born February 22, 1951 to the union of Lawrence and Bernice Kern in Kosciusko, MS. Carolyn was educated in Chicago school system and graduated from Malcolm X College as a dietary technician. Carolyn married Emmett Williams, Sr. and from that union three children were born. Carolyn was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses October 1970. Carolyn worked at Rush St. Luke’s Presbyterian Hospital as a supervisor diet tech for 30 years before retiring.

Carolyn was devoted to her family. She dedicated herself to her family and friends. She gave of herself unselfishly, to all who needed help. Her legacy was that she loved helping others before herself. Carolyn enjoyed cooking, singing, dancing and taking care of her family and friends. She enjoyed life to the fullest.

After a long illness, Carolyn fell asleep in death on September 8, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Bernice Kern, her husbands Emmett Williams, Sr. and John Carter, her siblings, three brothers, Percy, Ozzie, & Leonard, three sisters, Billie Jean, Mattie and Shirley.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: three children, Emmett Jr. (Andrea), Eric (Melissa), and Crystal (Daniel), and one daughter in law, Darice, two sisters, Mary (Eddie) and Everlean (Felton), ten grandchildren; Chavathian, Keeann, Chaniquiwa, Chavia, Jelon, Chamira, Jelissa, Emmanuel, Kaliyah & Morgan; one sister in law, Claudia; eight great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
