Laurabelle "Belle" Maring

Laurabelle “Belle” (Hackley) Maring, age 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Arbor Springs in West Des Moines.

Belle was born May 22, 1923, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Samuel and Pearl (Knapp) Hackley. Her father passed away when she was an infant, and she was raised by her mother, Pearl and her step-father, Emery Warren. Belle graduated from East High School in 1941. After graduation, she married John J. Maring on November 11, 1941. She worked for her step-father at E & E Lino Service for many years, and retired at the age of 79 from Heartland A.E.A. Belle was a lifelong member of Highland Park Christian Church and their longest living member. She was very active in her church and served as a Deaconess. Belle loved dancing and she was an accomplished square, round, and ballroom dancer. She loved her family and enjoyed interacting with them. Some of her hobbies included crocheting and reading, and she enjoyed taking walks. Belle always tried to live by the “Golden Rule,” and had many friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Tina Maring Olson (Carl); son, Dennis Maring (Barb); five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and Emery; husband, John; brother, Harold Hackley; and her special friend and dance partner, Buell Rockey.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 15, 2017, at Highland Park Christian Church, 4260 NW 6th Drive, Des Moines. Family will greet guests for an hour prior to the service. Belle will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later time.
