Maria Modesta Chavez De Mercado was born June 15, 1944, in Sensutepeque Cabañas, Canton Rio Grande, El Salvador to mother, Natalia Ortega and father, Jose Raul Chavez.

She passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Kavanagh on 56th surrounded by her loving family at the age of 73.

Services in Des Moines will take place at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, on Sunday, August 13, 2017. There will be a visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. There be a second time for visiting following the funeral until 7:00 p.m. Maria will be laid to rest at Pantion General De Sensuntepeque Cemetery in El Salvador.

Maria is survived by her children, Felipa Mercado, Christina Mercado, Jose Sebastian Mercado, Maria Mercado De Orellana, Reyna Chavez, Cruz O. Chavez and Santos Chavez and all of her grandchildren.
