Dorothy Fletcher

Dorothy Ellen Fletcher, entered the world December 15, 1923 and departed August 09, 2017, in Des Moines to parents Carl Hoder and Ellen Elizabeth Morine.

Some of Dorothy’s early life was spent in Duluth, Minnesota and Hancock, Michigan. She returned to Des Moines in her early teens. In time, the love of her life, Ernest “Fletch” Fletcher, and Dorothy were married in Norfolk, West Virginia, July 2, 1943 during WWII era.

She is survived by three children, Gary (Carolyn), Rebecca (Tom), and Kathy (John). Her family includes 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, brother, Harold; and niece, Kristin and husband, Arron.

Dorothy was fondly known as GG by many of her family members.

Dorothy is best remembered for her exuberant, generous, congenial, compassionate spirit. She was ever present with willing hand, encouraging word, support and unconditional love. Her famed gold ball cap carried many a grandchild’s golf match, soccer game, baseball tournament, even her beloved Hawkeyes, to victory! A glass of wine and hearty laugh initiated a GG party.

Our GG instilled lifelong values that guided us towards meaningful work, honesty, love, and humor. She will be our role model forever, and missed eternally.

Graveside services will take place at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Avenue, Des Moines.

The family requests all memorials be directed to Mercy Hospice-Johnston or St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Urbandale, Iowa.
