Dwight (Jug) B. Main, 91, of Des Moines passed away July 15, 2017, at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Dwight was born in Hathaway, Montana. He and his family moved to Moravia, Iowa, in 1929. He served in the US Army from 1944-1946 during WWII, and was stationed in Okinawa and Korea. Following his military service, he worked as a lineman for an electric company. He moved to Des Moines in 1948, and worked as a truck driver for Rietveld Truck Line. In 1950, Dwight started driving for Pulley Freight Lines in Des Moines and retired in 1988 when the company closed. He then worked at Pace Membership Warehouse part-time. Dwight has been known to many as “Jug,” a nickname he has had for most of his life. He married Maxine White in 1950 and had 4 children. Dwight spent all of his spare time with his children and grandchildren. His favorite pastime was going to dances with Maxine and listening to country music.

Dwight was preceded in death by his wife Maxine; parents, Ivan and Birdie Main; brothers, Eugene, Herbert, and Gaylord; sisters, Opal and Irene; granddaughter, Angela Heard; great-grandson, Derrick Hammond; and daughter-in-law, Barb Main.

He is survived by his children, Sheila (Jeffrey) Middleton of Altoona, Gary (Cindy) Main of Des Moines, Charles Main of Des Moines, and Tanya (Steven) Johnsen of Madrid; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Main of Centerville and Marge Main of Des Moines, as well as many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
