Edwin Kinney

Edwin Lowell Kinney “Fast Eddie,” 72, passed away July 8, 2017, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, with his family by his side.

The family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, July 13, 2017, at the Altoona Cemetery.

Ed was born February 16, 1945, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Homer and Florence Kinney of Bondurant, Iowa. He had a lifelong love for drag racing, street rods, radio controlled airplanes, and listening to Dick Youngs Golden Oldies.

Ed enjoyed spending time at the barn working with mares and foals and watching them grow up and run at Prairie Meadows. He looked forward to having coffee and cookies every morning with the “Coffee Club” in his garage.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 53 years, Velda; children, Marc (Tammy), Bethany, and DeAnn (Rich); grandchildren, Payton and Wyatt Rush, Jake and Jaime Taylor; sister, Eleanor (Ed) Gambs; brother, Carl (Dania) Kinney; many nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Florence Kinney.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Ed.
