Gerald Hoermann

Gerald James Hoermann, 86, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Karen Acres in Urbandale. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes, Iowa.

Gerald was born June 11, 1930 to Adolph and Etta Hoermann in Northwest Iowa. He was united in marriage to Maurine Schillinger on January 19, 1958 and farmed for most of his life. Gerald and Maurine enjoyed going to the old time dances and taking care of his animals. In later years, he loved to take care of his beloved kitties who miss him terribly, Gray, Tiger, and Blackie.

He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Linda (Danny) Priest of Bolingbrook, IL, Marjorie (Bob) Grote of Carroll, IA, and Ruth (Richard) Gear of Grimes, IA; grandchildren, Shari Harper, Shellee (Shawn) Holtrop, Michael (Natalie) Priest, April Anderson, Nick Anderson (Amy Blum), and Alexandrea Gear; great-grandchildren, William Alcantara (Leslie Peguero), Savannah Johnson, Carter, Callie, and Joslyn Priest; great-great-grandchildren, Damien and Darlette Alcantara; and brother, Harlan Hoermann.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Maurine in 2015; parents; daughter, Sarah Orton; great-grandchildren, Angel Priest and Gerald Anderson; and brother, Vernell Hoermann.
